SilCare® Silicone 15M50 is a silicon-hydrocarbon hy-brid fluid. It is insoluble in water, but compatible with most organic cosmetic ingredients. It is compatible in all ratios with: ethanol (95 %), isopropanol, longer chain alcohols up to stearyl alcohol, aliphatic solvents (e.g. heptane), mineral oil, ester oils (e.g. isopropyl myristate), alkyl methicones, alkyl dimethicones, cyclomethicones and low viscosity dimethicones.
SilCare® Silicone 15M50 is produced by hydrolysis of the corresponding chlorosilanes. SilCare® Silicone 15M50 is a Phenylsilsequioxane mix having a viscosity of 15 - 30 cSt.
SilCare® Silicone 15M50 is a pure, chemically inert phenyl-substituted silicone-hydrocarbon hybrid fluid. It can be used as carrier in a variety of hair care, skincare, antiperspirant and colour cosmetic products. Phenyl Trimethicone is substantive to hair and skin and is a good spreading agent. It improves the ease of formulation compared to dimethicones.
It gives conditioning effect, lubricity, emolliency, shine and detackification to cosmetic products.
Due to its double functionality (silicone and organic residue) it can be used to compatibilize/stabilize mixtures of silicone oils (dimethicones) and organic oils (hydrocarbon and ester oils), which are not miscible. For this purpose approx. 10 - 30 %, based on the total amount of the oil phase are sufficient.
Due to its high refractive index, SilCare® Silicone 15M50 can be used to adjust the refractive index in antiperspirant formulations to yield transparent antiperspirant emulsions.
Depending on the application field, usage concentrations between 0.2 - 50 % are recommended for SilCare® Silicone 15M50.
Generally, it is not recommended to use SilCare® Silicone 15M50 in aerosol applications at higher concentrations.
