Cationic polymer for the cosmetic industry
As a polymer containing cationic moieties, Genamin® PQ 43 is adsorbed onto negatively charged surfaces by forming an invisible film, for example on the hair. Due to this film forming ability and its associated properties, Genamin® PQ 43 is especially suitable as an active ingredient for hair and body cosmetics. This property also enables Genamin® PQ 43 to act as a carrier substance for other active ingredients, to prevent them from penetration or rinse off. Genamin® PQ 43 considerably enhances the shine of the hair and makes the skin smooth and soft. Genamin® PQ 43 acts as a moisturizer since it absorbs the humidity of the air and thus prevents the skin from drying out.
Genamin® PQ 43 is mainly used in rinse off products like hair shampoos, shower gels and body wash formulations. The concentration required depends on the desired smooth effect. The more Genamin® PQ 43 is used the smoother the skin will be. To achieve best effects, concentrations between 0.1% and 2% (as is) are recommended.
Other possible applications are the manufacture of anti-static fixatives for permanent waving, hair treatments, and styling products.
As a liquid to low viscous and water-soluble substance Genamin® PQ 43 is readily formulated into a broad range of cosmetic preparations. There are no difficulties in preparing clear formulations with Genamin® PQ 43.
Genamin® PQ 43 is adsorbed onto the hair from aqueous solutions as well as from emulsions (dispersions). In shower gels Genamin® PQ 43 is used as protecting and care agent which keeps the skin smooth and soft. Genamin® PQ 43 improves foam volume and stability.
Genamin® PQ 43 is superiorly compatible with anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants. Genamin® PQ 43 does not react with anionic surfactants by forming electroneutral salts as easily as a long-chained cationic surfactant. Genamin® PQ 43 can be used in combination with other long-chained cationic surfactants and fatty components. Therefore Genamin® PQ 43 is suitable for cream rinses.
No signs of incompatibility were observed with mixtures consisting of Genamin® PQ 43 and com-mercial film-forming agents such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone, PVA and PVP/VA. Genamin® PQ 43 is also compatible with protein derivatives, especially in the acid pH range.
pH stability
As a quaternized polymer Genamin® PQ 43 possesses excellent stability over a wide pH range.
Solubility
Genamin® PQ 43 is miscible with water in any ratio.
Genamin® PQ 43 is not soluble in pure alcohol or acetone.
