Polyvinyl pyrrolidone
Appearance colorless or sightly yellow transparent liquid
PVP K30 is a water soluble homopolymer of N-vinyl–2-pyrrolidone. It provides film forming, adhesive, and protective colloid characteristics and is widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Other applications include paper, textiles, detergents, coatings and beverages.
• Soluble in water and many organic solvents
• Compatible with most inorganic salts and many resins
• Forms hard, transparent glossy films
• Stabilizes emulsions, dispersions, and suspensions
• Used as viscosity modifier for aqueous systems
• Physiologically inert
• Reduces toxicity through complex formation
Polyviscol K30 is used in various applications. Some examples of applications are listed below.

Personal Care
• film former in hair setting and grooming products – sprays, gels, mousses, creams etc
• emulsion stabilizer in skin creams and lotions such as moisturizers, cleansers, shaving creams
• dispersant for hair colorants
• foam stabilizer
• de-stainer and gelling agent in toothpastes
• de-toxicant in cosmetic products
Pharmaceutical
• Solubilising agent & viscosity modifier
• In controlled release matrices such as vitamin and antibiotic preparations
• Tablet coating
• Bio adhesives such as in wound dressings and denture adhesives
• Additive in disinfectants such as burn ointments and hand disinfectant soaps
Industrial
• Emulsion and suspension stabilizer and viscosity modifier in liquid formulations
• Anti-soil redeposition agent and stabiliser of coloured fabrics in household detergents
• Wet strength additive and dispersant in paper
• Additive in paints, adhesives and inks
• Protective colloid and polymerisation stabilizer in plastics manufacture
• Delivery vehicle in agricultural fertilisers/pesticides
• Granulating agent in pesticide tablets/Film former in seed coating formulations
