UTANIT 427 has a very high sequestering capacity towards heavy metal ions. It eliminates iron specks or grey surfaces (frosting effect), possibly caused by the reaction of iron ions with vegetable tannins or syntans. UTANIT 427 is designed in such a way as to enable both the inevitable reaction with the chrome components of the leather and the sequestration of iron, even in relatively small quantities of application. The pH conditions influenced by the presence of UTANIT 427 enable, at the same time, a mild partial neutralization of combination-tanned leathers. Furthermore, UTANIT 427 exerts a positive influence on the softness and the grain of leather.

UTANIT 427 fixes insufficiently bound chrome, thus enabling a considerable reduction of the chrome content of rinsing baths and residual liquors.
