Introduction
Hyperdispersants are additives to improve wetting, stabilisation and milling efficiency of pigment dispersions. They also function as grinding aids to reduce the pigment particle size as well as narrowing the particle size distribution.
Smaller pigment particles will provide a better dispersion, but they normally also tend to flocculate or re-agglomerate. With the use of hyperdispersants this can be prevented, because they provide pigment dispersions with significantly improved anti-agglomeration and anti-flocculation properties, leading not only to improved storage stability, but also to reduced viscosity (or increased pigment loading), better gloss and higher colour strength.
